Electro-Harmonix have recently been publicising a certain Jack Conte. Jack is a self professed child of the new music paradigm - exploiting the web for exposure and sales every which way possible. Jack primarily produces VideoSongs which can be described as a genuine amalgam of sound and video to produce a coherent piece of work with no hidden tricks. By no means a new phenomenon, Jack, I suspect, is the first to market the final piece. There's a lot to like here, plus it's intriguing to watch the appearance of a new generation of musicians where technology and computers have always been part of their life. The videos further serve as a great educator; displaying as they do the various ways Jack attained certain sounds.. Electro-Harmonix pedals are used judiciously...and for good reason! Take a look for yourself below and be sure to visit the YouTube channel afterwards.

Closed Loop Analog Signal Processing (CLASP) from Endless Analog integrates analog and digital recording. A hardware interface passes all incoming signals to an existing analog tape machine. All sync, latency, offsets, studio monitoring and transport are handled by the system. Clealry a high-end solution but a great idea nonetheless. Video tutorials of CLASP in operation here.
A good friend recently forwarded me the link to this article. The author has some 18 years experience in product support and development, primarily at E-Mu/Ensoniq. The article considers the demise of CD, how it is was not allowed to develop and ultimately, how it is being replaced by a far far inferior medium. From my own experience, the younger generation increasingly have little or no idea about true sound quality i.e. what things can or do really sound like. The tradeoff between convenience and engineering has never been more apparent.
The article also links to an earlier article, by the same author, which gets fairly technical on the subject of digital resolution and signal-to-noise ratio in the context of CD. Worth a read.
