At some point it's going to be necessary to perform a clean install of Windows on your machine. In plain speak, Windows needs to be refreshed periodically particularly if you're an intensive audio/video user. While it may sound treacherous and the domain of only qualified individuals the truth is that with some patience and little bit of reading you can very easily do it yourself. Here are some helpful links:
AllBootDisks - Free resource for Microsoft Boot Disks
Bootdisk.com : A one stop shop for the necessary utilities to reformat and partition your machine. Lots of info here on how to perform clean installs of particular operating systems - for example: How to perform a clean install of Windows XP
Delpart: Very useful utility for deleting partitions - particulary non-DOS partitions. Depending on the source of your boot disk you'll either find delpart.exe on the disk or you can add it to the boot disk yourself
